The best shows to binge-watch on Netflix this summer

Universities up and down the country are out for the summer and that can only mean one thing – downtime for you guys!

If you’re not busy working to save funds for your next year at university, the next best thing is to recharge those batteries ready for another big 12 months. The SPCE team is gripped with Netflix fever at present, with so many great shows to catch up on after a busy day scouring the best private student accommodationnearby dozens of university campuses across the country.

So, we thought we’d share the Netflix fever with you all, giving you a half-a-dozen shows to binge-watch throughout the summer until the fun begins again on campus:

  • GLOW
David McLane’s GLOW is one of the funniest comedy series on Netflix today. After a successful first series, it was renewed last month for a second season of ten episodes – and boy are we thankful. The story is based around a fictional women’s professional wrestling circuit: the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling (GLOW). With a zany cast and a light-hearted plot, it’s a really easy watch, ideal for a chilled Sunday afternoon session.
  • Lovesick
British sitcom, Lovesick is an absolute laugh-a-minute series that we guarantee you’ll love. Set in the heart of Glasgow, Scotland, the show’s main character Dylan has to swallow his pride and get back in contact with some of his former girlfriends – for all the wrong reasons!
  • Big Mouth
Since its official release in September 2017, the animated sitcom of Big Mouth has received rave reviews; even scooping 100% from the notoriously-harsh Rotten Tomatoes. The cartoon centres around a boy named Andrew, who soon learns that growing up and becoming an adult isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be.
  • Nailed It!
Fed up of Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood? Turn your attention to Netflix’s very own baking television series, Nailed It! If you’re a dab hand in the kitchen, you’ll find it hilarious watching these home bakers with poor track records battle it out to create edible masterpieces and win cash prizes in the process.
  • The Story of God
Whether you’re simply a fan of Morgan Freeman or you’re prepared to chill out and open your mind to various cultures and religions, The Story of God is a six-part series starring Freeman as the presenter. Freeman visits new cultures and religions, attempting to understand their view on religious topics, in particular their belief in God or a higher being. It’s been so successful that the show has been renewed again for a third series that’s due to air in 2019.
  • Unsolved: Tupac and Biggie
For those who love documentaries and anthologies, make sure you check out Unsolved: Tupac and Biggie. This show focuses the spotlight on the murders of rap icons, Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G., seeking the opinions of two former Los Angeles Police Department detectives in helping to solve the mysteries of their deaths.
