The Holy Trinity: Sleep, Good Grades & Rock ‘n’ Roll

A good night’s sleep, A* grades and not living like a hermit – all at once? Surely not possible…

I’m sure some of you have seen this image before, but have you actually ever wondered if it is possible to get enough sleep, get good grades and have a social life at the same time?

We would like to let you in on a little secret on how to achieve all of the above without being superman or in possession of Hermione Granger’s Time-Turner.

Let’s take this step by step..

  1. The most essential thing is sleep! As a child, we all went down that path when we suddenly decided that a nap during the day is just not for us anymore. As a student however, there is nothing more precious than resting your eyes for 20, 30 or 40 minutes (or, *cough*, two hours) after lunch. Even though coffee is known as the students’ best friend, nothing can give you more energy than a good old fashioned nap. All of a sudden, evening lectures and late-night study sessions don’t seem that impossible anymore.

 

  1. A cheeky game of beer pong in the student halls, a foam party in the SU or a big night out-out in the city? Everything seems so much more tempting when you’ve been staring at your screen all day, asking yourself how you only managed to write one sentence on your assignment. A quick look on Instagram and the frustration gets even worse, seeing your mates nursing beers in the next pub. For most people, it’s the fear of missing out on something that makes them turn up to each and every party. What to do? Get your friends together and make a plan of the parties that you can definitely not miss out on (Don’t choose the ones that are during the exam period). If you have your friends sitting next to you in the library, the party that’s going on at that time seems much less interesting. Also, the ones you attend are SO MUCH MORE FUN!

 

  1. Last but not least – don’t be too hard on yourself. There will be days that won’t be productive and you’ll find yourself not knowing how to spell your own name. Use these opportunities to catch up with your sleep, meet friends or simply catch up on your laundry. In return, make the most of the days that you feel like a genius. Commit to your work and give your very best to get as much done as possible.

Finally, the secret key to keeping this all together and not freaking out is (*drum roll*) – TIME MANAGEMENT.

Yes, this might sound simple and like common sense, but it’s amazing how many students don’t actually follow this rule. Starting your work early and on a schedule gives you so much more valuable time to spend snuggled up in bed for an extra hour per day, taking shots at the bar and not panicking over passing the next exam.

最后要在学校取得好成绩不仅需要努力学习,而且还必须要对该课题感兴趣。尝试选择你真正感兴趣的科目。此外,尝试在课前阅读课本,这为你会节省很多时间。
